A Weekend in Boston
First impressions- culturally and transport system very San Franciscan, and architecture New Yorkan
As an adventurer ones desire and ones bank account may not always be in sync. As someone from the United States, I am fortunate to be able to explore the 52 states that are available at the palm of my hands. I am able to explore my own country where many places are similar in many ways, but also very different in many ways, without incurring high costs.
During my spring break I was able to cross off one of the states that my friends have advised I would ‘love’ so much, Boston, Massachusetts. Despite my spring break falling in the midst of winter and a winter with a record of snow fall at that- I insisted on braving the cold and dragging my childhood friend of mine who is currently living in NY to come along on the adventure. I think there is much to be said about a city that one can still enjoy despite inclement weather.
For the readers out there, and for what its worth here are some of the tips and tricks I have for an affordable travel. Currently, I am living in Washington, DC and I did not want to spend the money to fly out into Boston, MA. I rode the Megabus and took a break/picked up my friend in New York, NY.
Here are my costs (2-nights/ 3 days):
Transport: Megabus- $35 round-trip (NY > Boston), Charlie Pass - $18 (to get around the city for two days)
Airbnb: $65/person (total $130)
Food & drinks: $150
Miscellaneous: $30
Total Trip: $271
Transportation- Boston transport are run and structured very efficiently. Not too mention the trains are antique and vintage. A tourist would not get lost as the subways are color-coded (trains, signs, and walls are synchronized by colors) , and the stations are also color-coded. There are no tricks here. Pictured is the red line on our way to Harvard Square.
Education- Despite popular belief, Harvard campus is a very inviting, and intimate campus. The campus grounds are a lot smaller, and does not hold up to the world-renowned name, which it stands for.
